The Atlantic slave trade was the transoceanic system of buying, transporting, and selling enslaved Africans across the Atlantic Ocean from the 16th to the 19th centuries. It supplied forced labor primarily to European colonies and nations in the Americas and resulted in the enslavement and displacement of millions of Africans.
