Confiscation Acts

The Confiscation Acts were laws passed by the United States Congress during the American Civil War that authorized the seizure of property, including enslaved people, from individuals supporting the Confederacy. The acts weakened the Confederate war effort and helped pave the way for broader emancipation policies, including the Emancipation Proclamation.
