doxing

« Back to Glossary Index

The practice of publicly revealing or distributing an individual’s personal information, such as home address, phone number, employer, or family details, without consent, often to intimidate, harass, threaten, or facilitate real-world retaliation. Doxing is frequently employed as a political or ideological weapon by the left against perceived opponents and can expose targets to harassment, stalking, loss of employment, or physical danger. Defenders sometimes portray such disclosures as accountability or activism, while critics view them as a form of coercion designed to silence dissent and discourage public participation.
