The act of trying to persuade people to vote for or against a candidate, political party, or ballot issue. Common forms of electioneering include campaign speeches, political advertisements, distributing literature, displaying signs, and encouraging people to support a particular position in an election. In some situations, electioneering may be illegal, such as campaigning inside polling places, within restricted distances of voting locations, or in ways that intimidate, pressure, or improperly influence voters.
