A political philosophy that seeks to reduce social, economic, and political inequalities through collective action and a more extensive role for government or other communal institutions. Leftists generally place greater emphasis on economic redistribution, social justice, and systemic analyses of power, privilege, and oppression than liberals or conservatives. While leftist views vary widely, they often favor more significant changes to existing social and economic structures than those typically advocated by liberals.
