Discrimination is the unjust treatment of people based on characteristics unrelated to individual merit or conduct.

Traditionally, it referred to treating individuals differently because of race, sex, religion, or similar characteristics.

In the woke activist worldview, the term is broadened to include neutral policies that produce unequal statistical outcomes among groups, even when no discriminatory intent exists.
